Agency application on ecological sustainability

About the application

On 17 September 2014 interested parties were advised that the Department of the Environment had received an application from the Queensland Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry seeking ongoing export approval for the Queensland East Coast Inshore Fin Fish Fishery, and that consideration would be given to:

  • declaring the Queensland East Coast Inshore Fin Fish Fishery as managed consistent with the Queensland Fisheries Act 1994 and the Queensland Fisheries Regulation 2008, as an approved wildlife trade operation under section 303FN of the EPBC Act, and
  • including in the list of exempt native specimens, specimens harvested in the Queensland East Coast Inshore Fin Fish Fishery under the provisions of the Queensland Fisheries Act 1994 and the Queensland Fisheries Regulation 2008.

In accordance with the provisions of sections 303FR and 303DC of the EPBC Act, interested parties were invited to comment on this proposal. The public comment period commenced on 19 September 2014 and was due to cease on 24 November 2014.

We have since received a number of requests to extend the public comment period. This notice is to advise interested persons that the public comment period will be extended until 11 December 2014.
