About the applications
The current export approvals for the New South Wales (NSW) Estuary Prawn Trawl Fishery, Estuary General Fishery and Ocean Trawl Fishery are valid until 27 October 2017.
The Department of the Environment and Energy received the applications: NSW Estuary Prawn Trawl Fishery Assessment; NSW Estuary General Fishery Assessment; and Assessment of the NSW Ocean Trawl Fishery from the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries in September 2017.
The applications have been prepared to address the Australian Government Guidelines for the Ecologically Sustainable Management of Fisheries - 2nd edition and to provide updates on the implementation of any conditions or recommendations made in the previous Australian Government assessments. The applications will be used to assess the operation of the fisheries for the purposes of Parts 13 and 13A of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
Consideration will be given to:
- declaring each of these fisheries as approved wildlife trade operations under section 303FN of the EPBC Act, and
- including specimens harvested in these fisheries in the list of exempt native specimens.
In accordance with the provisions of sections 303FR and 303DC of the EPBC Act, you are invited to comment on this proposal.
