About the application
The Department of the Environment received an application, ‘Submission for Australian export from Exploratory Fisheries in the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), Statistical Divisions 58.4.1 and 58.4.2’, from the Australian Fisheries Management Authority in August 2015. The application has been prepared to address the Australian Government ‘Guidelines for the Ecologically Sustainable Management of Fisheries – 2nd Edition’. The application will be used to assess the operation of the fishery for the purposes of Parts 13 and 13A of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
Consideration will be given to:
- declaring Australian harvest from ‘New and Exploratory Fisheries’ in the CCAMLR Statistical Divisions 58.4.1 and 58.4.2, as managed consistent with the Fisheries Management Act 1991 and the Antarctic Marine Living Resources Conservation Act 1981, as an approved wildlife trade operation under section 303FN of the EPBC Act, and
- including in the list of exempt native specimens, specimens harvested from ‘New and Exploratory Fisheries’ in the CCAMLR Statistical Divisions 58.4.1 and 58.4.2 under the provisions of the Fisheries Management Act 1991 and the Antarctic Marine Living Resources Conservation Act 1981.
