About the poster
Australia is the world's driest inhabited continent with the rainfall we do receive varying considerably from year to year, between seasons and across Australia. From the tropical north to the arid interior droughts and floods are common. Many unique and beautiful freshwater ecosystems have evolved in response to these conditions. Water is a vital and highly valued resource and Australia's economy and the well-being of our population and environment are dependent on the wise use of our limited water resources.
The United Nations General Assembly declared 2003 as the International Year of Freshwater to raise awareness of water issues and encourage action by communities, governments and industry to better manage and protect the world's water resources. Communities and governments across Australia are working together to manage our precious water resources in the International Year of Freshwater 2003.
