Summary
KPMG were commissioned to provide an independent evaluation of the appropriateness, effectiveness and efficiency of the National Water Quality Management Strategy (NWQMS).
The evaluation included targeted consultation with relevant stakeholders and will be used to inform a paper on the future strategic direction of the NWQMS.
The independent evaluation recommends continuing with the NWQMS as a Council of Australian Governments (COAG) policy initiative, with some improvements in its structure and how it is governed, implemented and monitored.
