The Ramsar Management Planning Program (RaMPP), which is funded until June 2011, was established to promote more effective management and planning processes for Ramsar wetlands through clear descriptions of Ramsar wetlands, their ecological character, agreed statements of threats and management needs and greater awareness and acceptance of Australia's Ramsar obligations.
Key activities under the program include the development of Ecological Character Descriptions (ECD), Ramsar Information Sheets (RIS) and Management Plans for existing Ramsar wetlands and new site listings.
The Australian Government is working directly with Ramsar site managers and state and territory governments to implement this program.
