Prime Minister's Water Wise Award
The Australian Prime Minister's Water Wise Award is the nation's pre-eminent award for water efficiency excellence by commercial and industrial water users.
The Award aims to encourage and recognise significant savings in water efficiency by the commercial and industrial sector. Typically this sector consumes approximately 15 to 20 per cent of urban water in Australia and greater water efficiency will take pressure off fresh water supplies in urban and regional areas.
Applications
The inaugural Prime Minister's Water Wise Awards were launched on 1 October 2009 and closed on 30 November 2009 with a large number of high quality applications received.
Finalists
The Australian Government acknowledges all businesses who nominated, highlighting their efforts to achieve best practice in water efficiency and demonstration of their commitment to continual improvement.
The judging panel, which included a representative of the Department Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, assessed each nomination against the merit criteria individually to reach a consensus on the result. The panel recommended finalists to the Minister for Climate Change and Water, Senator the Hon. Penny Wong, with the winner decided by the Prime Minister.
Five finalists were selected on the basis of their leadership; significant water savings; innovation; excellence in project delivery and high capacity for their approaches to be replicated at other facilities.
The five finalists:
- Amcor Australasia
- Coca-Cola Amatil
- Diageo Australia
- Inghams Enterprises
- Rossdale Golf Club
Winners
At the 2010 Australian Water Association Awards dinner on 9 March 2010, Inghams Enterprises was announced as the winner of the inaugural Prime Minister's Water Wise Award. Please see the fact sheet for further information.
