Download
Project location: Gawler, South Australia
Funding recipient: Light Regional Council
Total Australian Government funding: $10,700,000 (GST exclusive)
Water savings: up to 800 ML/yr
About the project
The project will harvest urban stormwater into wetlands where it will be cleaned, prior to being injected into an aquifer for storage. The water will then be extracted for supply to be delivered to reserves, sports fields, school ovals and for use in industrial areas.
Project benefits/objectives:
- reduce the demand for potable water by up to 800 ML/yr
- reduce the impact of urban runoff on local waterways and ecosystems, and
- improved amenity of community ovals and sports fields.
Stormwater Harvesting and Reuse projects are funded by the Australian Government's Water for the Future initiative.
