Northern Australia Water Futures Assessment - Knowledge Base program
The objective of the Northern Australia Water Futures Assessment is to provide an enduring Knowledge Base to inform development of northern Australia’s water resources, so that development proceeds in an ecologically, culturally and economically sustainable manner.
The Knowledge Base will provide easy access to information to assist in decision-making and planning of water resource development in Northern Australia. It may include information on:
- Water resource availability in northern Australia
- Ecosystem, cultural and social functions of water resources in northern Australia and potential impacts of changes in hydrological regimes (including those due to any future development) on these functions
- Critical environmental thresholds and limits
- Current water infrastructure/assets and the economic value of water
- Information on administrative, policy or regulatory issues of relevance.
The users of the Knowledge Base may include jurisdictions, NRM bodies and others. The Knowledge Base will assist its users to plan and make decisions based on the best available knowledge and information.
Assessment news
NGIS Australia Pty Ltd have been commissioned to consult with potential users of the Knowledge Base to find out how they will use it and what they want the Knowledge Base to be able to do. This feedback will be used to make recommendations regarding the design, including possible structure, content and architecture of the Knowledge Base. A report capturing these recommendations will be available at the end of August 2009.
