Total funding: : Total project cost of $4.91 million, with funding of $2.455 million from the Australian Government under the National Water Security Plan for Cities and Towns and the remaining funding provided by the Western Australia Water Corporation.
About the project
The Subiaco Wastewater Treatment Plant currently treats 60 million litres of wastewater each day and will be expanded to 75 million litres each day by 2025. The project will reduce in-plant potable water use and increase in-plant water recycling.
Project benefits
This project will:
- reduce potable water use by an estimated 186 million litres each year,
- benefit Greater Perth, Kalgoorlie and surrounding towns connected through the integrated water supply system, and
- substitute in-plant water use with recycled water where possible, increasing the water efficiency of the treatment plant, reduce environmental footprint and contribute to the overall Western Australian recycling targets.
Progress
The project commenced in 2010, and is scheduled for completion in 2013.
