Australian Botanical Liaison Officer (ABLO)

Funding and research

The review of the Australian Botanical Liaison Officer (ABLO) position undertaken by the ABRS in consultation with the Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria (CHAH) and the ABRS Advisory Committee has been completed.

Given recent advances in digital technology and access to herbarium specimen data via the Internet, there is no longer a strong requirement for the ABLO position and it will not be continued.

However, in recognition of the service role undertaken by the ABLO, the Research Grants stream under the ABRS National Taxonomy Research Grant Program will be revised to include a ‘service component’ for projects involving travel to an overseas institution. It is anticipated that this change will be introduced in the 2013–2014 round.

Further information regarding this change will be provided on the ABRS Grants Homepage in coming months.
