Recruitment process

Applications for the 2015 Graduate Programme have closed.

Online application

All candidates must apply for the Graduate Programme through the online application portal during the application period. It is essential that you answer all sections of the application including achievements and work or volunteer experience. All components of your application will be assessed.

Preliminary short listing

Applications will be assessed and shortlisted by a team of Departmental officers. Applications are assessed on responses to questions, personal achievements, extracurricular activities, academic results and work experience. It is anticipated that preliminary short listing will be completed by late April.

Secondary short listing

Successful applications from the preliminary short listing process will be reassessed by senior Departmental officers using the same criteria as the preliminary short listing. It is anticipated this will occur in early June. Successful applicants from the secondary round of short listing will be invited to attend an interview in a major capital city close to their city of origin.

Interview

Candidates will be interviewed by a panel of Senior Executive officers from the Department. Candidates may also be asked to complete a work based test such as a writing exercise or presentation. Candidates will have the opportunity to meet with Graduate Programme staff and find out more about the programme and opportunities within the Department. It is anticipated that interviews will be held in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra with candidates flown to the closest interview location. Phone interviews can be arranged for applicants living or traveling overseas at the time of interview. It is anticipated that interviews will occur in July.
