State of the Environment

reporting

Expressions of interest are being sought for membership of the Australian State of the Environment (SoE) 2011 committee - Deadline extended

The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 requires the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts to table in Parliament a report on the State of the Australian Environment, every five years. The next report is due on 31 December 2011.

The 2011 report will be produced independently by a committee of experts, appointed by the Minister. The committee will work together over the next three years to produce a report on the State of the Australian Environment, including a summary of main findings.

The committee is pivotal to achieving a high quality report, which will provide an accurate account of environmental conditions, summarise management achievements and challenges, and identify critical issues to be addressed in the future. The report will be instrumental in shaping the direction of environmental policies and programs at a national as well as regional scale.

Members of the committee will be knowledgeable in a wide range of disciplines related to natural systems and pressures on those systems. The Minister is seeking expressions of interest from outstanding contributors in their fields and highly effective communicators.

The chairman of the committee will also have exceptional collaboration and leadership skills.
