The Australian Government has kick-started unprecedented growth in the solar industry, its jobs and training opportunities through generous incentives.
The Government is sending a clear message to investors, manufacturers, distributors and installers that renewable energy is a major part of our efforts to tackle climate change.
Work to be done
More than 1,100 projects are still to be completed under the Renewable Remote Power Generation Program.
The remaining 64,000 installations to be done under the remote power program and the Solar Homes and Communities Plan would take up to 12 months to complete based on current installation rates.
Accredited solar panel installers have doubled over the last year to more than 1,000. A further 300 solar installers are in training now, taking advantage of a significant increasing in training opportunities.
Work also continues under the Government's National Solar Schools Program and Solar Cities program.
Investment in renewable energy
The Government is supporting Australia's renewable energy industry including:
- Putting a value on environmental costs through the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme
- A four-fold increase in market share with the expanded Renewable Energy Target generating an estimated $20 billion in investment
- Supporting small scale installations of solar, wind and hydro power by homes, businesses and community organisations through the allocation of additional Renewable Energy Certificates under the Solar Credits program
- Support for research and commercialisation through the Australian Government's $4.5 billion Clean Energy Initiative including $465 million to establish the Australian Centre for Renewable Energy and $1.365 billion for the Solar Flagships program, helping establish Australia as a world leader in solar technology
