Hazardous waste

Review of Hazardous Waste Legislation

The department is undertaking a review of the Hazardous Waste (Regulation of Exports and Imports) Act 1989 and associated regulations to ensure that Australia effectively and efficiently meets its international obligations and national policy objectives for managing hazardous substances, hazardous wastes and other wastes.

The next stage in the review will be a consultation paper that seeks feedback on options for amendments to the Act and Regulations.

Issues paper

An issues paper was released on 14 June 2012 as the first stage in the consultation process for the review. The paper sought feedback from stakeholders on issues that should be addressed in the review.
