Water Purchase Tender in the Queensland Lower Balonne
On 17 February 2014 the Australian Government Parliamentary Secretary for Water, Senator Simon Birmingham, announced a tender for the purchase of water licences in the Lower Balonne Water Management Area of the Queensland Murray-Darling Basin.
The tender opened on 17 February 2014 and will close at 5.00 pm AEDT on 14 March 2014.
The tender aims to purchase eligible unsupplemented water harvesting licences and overland flow water harvesting licences held in the Queensland Lower Balonne water management area.
The Lower Balonne water purchase tender will help to deliver on the Australian Government’s commitment towards bridging the gap to meet the Sustainable Diversion Limits in the northern Murray-Darling Basin.
Who can apply?
Owners of unsupplemented water harvesting licences or unsupplemented overland flow water harvesting licences held in the Queensland Lower Balonne Water Management Area are eligible for to apply to sell their licences in this tender.
In order to meet the outcomes of the Murray‑Darling Basin Plan, the amount of water purchased will be subject to the environmental needs identified by the Murray‑Darling Basin Authority.
How will my application be evaluated?
Eligible applications will be evaluated by the Department on the basis of value for money after the close of the tender on 14 March 2014.
Applications pursued by the Department will be subject to due diligence.
