Greg Hunt MP
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for the Environment and Heritage
Federal Member for Flinders
17 May 2006
The Hon Greg Hunt MP, Parliamentary Secretary with ministerial responsibility for the Bureau of Meteorology today announced the launch of a new look home page for the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au.
"From today, the Bureau will include current weather information 'up front' on the home page. Navigation around the site has also been simplified with direct links to some of the most visited areas," Mr Hunt said
"The Bureau's website remains one of the most frequently accessed government sites in Australia, and one of the most accessed Australian sites overall - only marginally behind www.yahoo.com.au."
"The new home page aims to encourage people to feel at ease accessing weather technology - there are a range of services available from the Bureau's web site including radar images, severe weather warning tracking and the new seven day forecasts."
"By learning to easily navigate around the Bureau's site people could prevent damage to both life and property during a severe weather event - just through being better prepared by accessing weather warnings online."
Further explanation about the page can be found by logging onto www.bom.gov.au and opening the 'This Month's Feature' section on the home page.
