New weather services for the Commonwealth Games

The Hon Greg Hunt MP, Parliamentary Secretary with ministerial responsibility for the Australian Bureau of Meteorology today announced the Bureau of Meteorology will be launching a specific Commonwealth Games weather service, in particular, a web page with updates on the weather status of Games venues.

“A web page with weather information relating specifically to the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games can be found on the Bureau of Meteorology’s web site at An icon on the homepage will provide a direct link to weather details for the convenience of people attending the Games, Mr Hunt said.

“The Commonwealth Games page will allow easy navigation to weather information relevant to each of the Games venues. This includes forecasts and current weather conditions for Melbourne itself, as well as for Regional centres such as Ballarat and Bendigo where Games events are also being held.”

The Bureau’s web site is the most heavily accessed government website in Australia averaging more than 600 million hits per month over recent months.  Mr Hunt encouraged those who have not previously visited the web site to also explore the other weather, climate and related information available from the Bureau.

The new Commonwealth Games page will become available on Tuesday 14 March at
