Senator the Hon Robert Hill
Leader of the Government in the Senate
Minister for the Environment
3 February 1997
New South Wales Senator the Hon Bob Woods informed me today that he had told the Prime Minister of his intention to resign from the Senate.
While it is disappointing to lose a valuable member of the Coalition Senate team, the reasons behind Senator Woods' announcement are understandable.
Senator Woods has displayed a wide array of skills during his service in the Federal Parliament, both as the Federal Member for Lowe from 1987 to 1993, and then as a Senator for New South Wales from July 1996.
Senator Woods has been a committed and energetic contributor to policy development within the Coalition, particularly in the field of Health Policy.
He has also contributed greatly through his committee work both in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Senator Woods' efforts and enthusiasm will be missed by the Coalition Senate team.
On behalf of all Coalition Senators, I thank Senator Woods for his work in the Senate and wish him every success in life after politics.
