Senator the Hon Robert Hill
Leader of the Government in the Senate
Minister for the Environment
31 January 1997
I am greatly saddened to learn of the death of Senator John Panizza.
Since entering the Senate in 1987, Senator Panizza had been a strong representative for the State of Western Australia.
His appointment as Government Whip in the Senate following the March 1996 election was a fitting tribute to his tireless efforts and service both in the Senate chamber and on a range of Senate committees.
Senator Panizza was a great advocate for rural and regional interests, not only in his home State but across Australia.
Senator Panizza was a fine Australian who was proud of his Italian heritage.
His death is a great lost to the Coalition Senate team.
On behalf of all Coalition Senators, I express our deepest sympathy to John's wife Coral and his family.
