Senator Robert Hill
Leader of the Government in the Senate
Minister for the Environment
14 August 1996
Federal Environment Minister Robert Hill has announced an extension of time for public comment on the draft guidelines for the Environmental Impact Statement into the proposed Second Major Airport for Sydney at Badgerys Creek or Holsworthy.
The original deadline for public comments on the draft guidelines was Monday, August 19.
This has now been extended by a fortnight to Monday, September 2.
Senator Hill says the extension follows feedback from public meetings conducted by the Environment Protection Agency and representations from the Federal Member for Hughes, Mrs Danna Vale.
Senator Hill says the extension shows the Government's commitment to ensuring public participation in the process of determining the appropriateness of sites for a new airport and to ensuring the transparency of the decision making process.
Senator Hill says all submissions received by the new deadline will be considered by the EPA in its formulation of the final guidelines.
Copies of the draft guidelines can be obtained by calling 1800 811 109 (free call) or on the internet at http//www.erin.gov.au/portfolio/epg/eianet/notifications.html
