Environment Minister Peter Garrett has announced a new streamlined process and new guidelines to make it even easier for 2.9 million Australians to install ceiling insulation in their home.

On the first day of winter at an event with one of Australia's major manufacturers of ceiling insulation, Fletcher Insulation, Mr Garrett said installing ceiling insulation under the Nation Building - Economic Stimulus Plan will soon be even easier for eligible householders.

There are two programs focusing on ceiling insulation:

“Over 25,000 people have already installed insulation thanks to these programs - part of our $4 billion commitment to improving household energy efficiency.

“From 1 July 2009, installing insulation will be even easier with householders simply needing to select a provider from the Installer Provider Register which will be available online from 1 July 2009.

“After installation, the installer will receive their payments direct from the Government so householders will only need to meet any costs above the amount of Government assistance.

“This makes it quick and easy for householders across Australia to have ceiling insulation installed in their home - in most cases at zero cost - and they can enjoy the savings and comfort and energy savings of ceiling insulation.

“Installers will need to register with the Government through a simple registration process which will open in the coming weeks.”

Mr Garrett said the $4 billion Energy Efficiency Homes package, including the $1600 Solar Hot Water Rebate, was already transforming Australian homes and providing a jobs boost to manufacturing, distribution and installation during tough economic times.

“The benefits of the Energy Efficient Homes package are already flowing with industry ramping up, expanding facilities, putting on new shifts and developing training courses for new recruits,” Mr Garrett said.

“For example, Fletcher Insulation is upgrading manufacturing plants, running factories 24/7 and all this is creating jobs from the warehouses through to the call centres.”

Mr Garrett said until 1 July 2009 householders can continue to have ceiling insulation installed in line with the early installation guidelines.
