Two appointments for the Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM) will bring significant museum and business expertise to theorganisationArts Minister Peter Garrett said today.
The Minister congratulated Ms Mary-Louise Williams on her re-appointment as Director of the Maritime Museum for a further five years and welcomed Mrs Robyn Holt as a new member of the Council.
Mr Garrett said Ms Williams had been Director of the Museum since 2000, with over twenty years experience in museum and arts administration including a background in curating.
“As the Maritime Museum’s Director for eight years Ms Williams has overseen numerous achievements including taking responsibility for the internationally acclaimed replica of James Cook’s HM Bark Endeavour, implementing an Australian Register of Historic Vesselsand increasing visitor numbers,”Mr Garrett said.
“Her appointment for a further five years will ensure that the Museum continues to be a world-class national cultural institution responsible for Australia’s diverse maritime heritage.”
Mr Garrett also congratulated Mrs Holt on her appointment to the Museum Council for three years. Mrs Holt is a former Chief Executive of a number of local and European companies, most recently at Collette Dinnigan Pty Ltd.
“Mrs Holt's extensive experience in publishing, fashion and beauty retail industries in Australia and internationally brings new and valuable perspectives to the Museum's Council.
”The Australian National Maritime Museum plays an important role providing Australians with access to the nation’s maritime history and makes a significant contribution to the continuing vitality of Australia’s cultural heritage by maintaining and developing significant national collections.
