Environment Minister, Peter Garrett is encouraging Australians to get involved with National Science Week 2008 activities planned in their local community.
“Science Week is an excellent opportunity for members of the community to come out and learn more about the world around them,” Mr Garrett said.
“The Bureau of Meteorology is celebrating National Science Week 2008 with a range of activities planned around the country – I encourage all Australians with an interest in weather and climate to take advantage of the wide range of activities planned.
“This year the Bureau is celebrating its 100th birthday and there is no better time to participate in the many activities planned by the Bureau than during its birthday year.
“National Science Week provides the perfect opportunity to celebrate the wide range of sciences at work at the Bureau, as well as inspiring a new generation of young minds to learn more about science and the world around them.”
Building on the success of the past two years, Bureau staff will once again conduct a range of activities including the release of weather balloons, talks, and tours, open days, and competitions. The celebrations run between Saturday 16 August and Sunday 24 August.
