Victorian Government contradiction on wind farms

The Victorian Planning Minister, Rob Hulls, has made a number of comments in relation to a decision I made to refuse approval of a wind farm in Victoria because of risks to the near-extinct Orange-bellied Parrot.

These comments are contradictory.

Minister Hulls issued a media release on 6 July 2005, in which he refused approval of a wind farm in Victoria on the basis that it posed an unacceptable risk to the Wedge-tailed Eagle.

In his release, Minister Hulls said:

“While the wedge-tailed eagle is not currently listed as threatened, it is numerically rare and could slip into the threatened category if levels decline further. The risk to the species by this proposed development is unacceptably high.” (Rob Hulls media release, 6 July 2005)
