Minister for the Environment and Heritage
Senator the Hon. Ian Campbell
3 February 2005
The decision by Coalition Leader Colin Barnett to sign up to the National Water Initiative should set an example to state Labor leaders who have failed to do so, Federal Minister for the Environment and Heritage & WA Senator, Ian Campbell said today.
Mr Barnett announced last night during the election debate that he would sign up to the comprehensive national blueprint for water reform if the Coalition won the election on 26 February.
“By committing to the National Water Initiative, Colin Barnett will have access to a pool of $2 billion to help secure Western Australia's water requirements,” Senator Campbell said.
“Geoff Gallop was unable to make this decision and as a consequence Western Australians have suffered.
“As a Western Australian and as Federal Environment Minister, I believe these decisions are critical to the future of water security and prosperity of Western Australia.” he said.
