Minister for the Environment and Heritage
Senator the Hon. Ian Campbell
12 October 2004
The Bald Hills wind farm project in South Gippsland has been put on hold until more information is supplied by the project operator, the federal Minister for the Environment and Heritage, Senator Ian Campbell, said today.
He said more information was required about economic and social factors and the environmental impacts of the 35 km power distribution line, especially on birdlife.
He said the Department of Environment and Heritage stopped the approval process yesterday and had written to the managing director of Wind Power Pty Ltd, Mr Stephen Buckle, outlining what information was required.
"I have consistently said the application process will need to thoroughly address all concerns that have been raised about the project," Senator Campbell said.
"A response to the issues raised by the department is expected within a matter of weeks, not months.
"The assessment process will resume once that information has been received."
