Pleasing End of Year Report for Renewable Energies


An interim report on Australia's renewable energy industry has found the sector is on track to reach its primary target of $4 billion in annual sales by 2010.

Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane, Environment Minister David Kemp and President of the Australian Business Council for Sustainable Energy, Andrew Stock, today released a report which details the industry's progress in its first two years under the Renewable Energy Action Agenda.

"The Action Agenda is a ten-year plan for the industry's growth and this second year report indicates that all goals will be achieved. At this rate, the industry will realise its vision of becoming a sustainable, internationally competitive industry within the next eight years," said Mr Macfarlane.

"This is an emerging industry showing dramatic global growth. Significant domestic and international business opportunities are available. The Action Agenda process is helping Australian industry take advantage of them," said Mr Stock.

According to the report's author, Dr Bruce Godfrey, progress during the second year of Agenda's implementation has been outstanding. Achievements to date include:

"The roadmap, which was initiated through an Australian Greenhouse Office grant, will help industry, the research community and government work together to identify technologies of strategic importance and develop strategies to access and implement these technologies," said Dr Kemp.
