Senator the Hon Robert Hill
Leader of the Government in the Senate
Minister for the Environment and Heritage
22 September 2000
Federal Environment Minister Robert Hill today announced the proposed Naturelink Gold Coast Cableway will require approval under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
The proposed Cableway would traverse sections of the Springbrook National Park, which is listed under the World Heritage Convention as part of the Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves (CERRA) World Heritage Property.
The proposed development triggers the EPBC Act because its construction and operation could potentially impact on world heritage values and nationally threatened species.
The next step under the EPBC Act is for the proponent to provide additional information to enable the Minister to determine the level of environmental assessment required.
