Minister for Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities
Call for nominations for Environmentalist of the Year
8 June 2011
Environment Minister Tony Burke has called for nominations for the 2011 Prime Minister's Environmentalist of the Year Award and the Environment Minister's Young Environmentalist of the Year Award.
These are both part of the Banksia environmental awards which reward businesses, community groups and individuals for their commitment to creating a more sustainable Australia.
"Most Australian's are aware of the threats and pressures on our unique environment and would like to see it protected and conserved into the future," Mr Burke said.
"However, these awards are about recognising the special few who go beyond the call of duty and make an extraordinary effort to protect and conserve our environment.
"The Environmentalist of the Year and Young Environmentalist of the Year awards allows the Government to recognise these people who stand out for their leadership, dedication and commitment to the environment.
"Over 23 years the Banksia Awards have recognised the outstanding contributions many groups and individuals have made to our environment.
"Their achievements have motivated other Australians and organisations across Australia to work even harder for a healthy environment that sustains our economy, our communities, and our Australian way of life.
"I encourage anyone making a contribution to a Sustainable Australia to consider entering these awards."
