Water Market Reports online through the National Water Market Website
3 December 2010
Water market reporting is now available at www.nationalwatermarket.gov.au , Water Minister, Tony Burke, announced today.
"The new reports present trade volume and price data for allocations and entitlements and will assist water users to make business decisions more efficiently.
"In coming months, more information will be added to the website, allowing users to detect market trends," Minister Burke said.
The website forms part of the National Water Market System project; a $56 million Water for the Future investment to develop a faster, more efficient and nationally focused water market system.
"The National Water Market System project will provide easy access to comprehensive market information in a single website.
"The project will also deliver consistent water registry systems for all states and territories and more efficient trading processes.
"This will make water trading, particularly interstate transactions in the Murray-Darling Basin, quicker and easier.
"The National Water Market System will allow water, one of our most precious resources, to be traded where it is needed most.
"There is still a long way to go before the water market will have the levels transparency and maturity required to operate in the best interests of water users.
"That said the availability of this information all at the one site is still a significant step forward."
