About the brochure
Bushcare, the largest program of the Commonwealth Government's $1.5 billion Natural Heritage Trust, aims to reverse the long-term decline of Australia's native vegetation.
Since the program's inception, approximately $14m of Bushcare funding has supported some 250 local councils to implement a range of native vegetation management projects both within and across shire boundaries, and on public and private land.
The types of projects range from vegetation establishment through to landholder incentive schemes such as rate relief and Land for Wildlife. Bushcare recognises the major role that local councils play in native vegetation management, and seeks to support Local Government in the implementation of the National Local Government Biodiversity Strategy. Bushcare encourages councils throughout Australia to apply for funding to undertake projects that will see an increase in the quality and extent of native vegetation.
