In August 2005, the Natural Resource Management Ministerial Council endorsed a revised Voluntary code of practice for firewood merchants, to replace that agreed by the Council in May 2002. The revised Voluntary Code of Practice was developed following consultation with firewood merchants and state and territory governments, and promotes a more environmentally friendly firewood industry. The Voluntary Code of Practice will underpin a sustainable future for the industry.
