Trends in the Abundance and Distribution
of Feral Goats in the Rangelands
Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities, 2012
About the report
Goats (Capra hircus) are an important contributor to total grazing pressure in the southern, predominantly sheep-grazed, rangelands. Since they are unconstrained by conventional fencing, prefer rugged or shrubby terrain and have a broader diet than other stock, feral goats thrive in many rangeland ecosystems and are difficult to effectively manage.
