Over the last 11 years it has developed the capacity to deliver accredited and non-accredited training courses and workshops that equip Aboriginal men and women for sustainable jobs in a wide range of industries, including cultural education and tourism, land management and horticulture. Since its foundation, Muru Mittigar has specialised in the delivery of cultural heritage management training, including units from the following training packages:
- Agriculture, Horticulture and Conservation and Land Management
- Museum and Library Information Services
- Resources and Infrastructure
- Retail Services, Tourism, Hospitality and Events
This has been implemented in partnership with Elders and Traditional Custodians from the Darug and other Aboriginal Nations, and with the Western Sydney Institute of TAFE NSW. Projects successfully completed include Deerubbin Conservation and Cultural Project by Aboriginal Rangers (Caring for Our Country), Hadley Park Restoration and Penrith Lakes Aboriginal Archaeological Survey. Muru Mittigar has also established its Aboriginal Cultural and Education Centre at Castlereagh, including a museum and traditional knowledge unit, an arena for Corroborees, cultural displays and bush tucker cultivation, and a large native provenance nursery
