In 2009, 18 months after the establishment of Working on Country, the department commissioned a review of the program. Consulting firm Walter Turnbull were engaged to assess the appropriateness, efficiency, effectiveness and impact of Working on Country.
The department welcomes the findings of the Walter Turnbull review into the Working on Country program. It has been valuable in highlighting both the strengths of the program and areas in which improvements could be made. The department considers that the review findings will assist the department to strengthen and build the program. Many of the issues raised in the Walter Turnbull review have been addressed, and work is well under way to effect changes that will positively enhance the program.
