Land Management
Caring for country is important to Indigenous Australians. Knowledge of the land and sea is central to culture, spiritual beliefs, and traditional land management.
The Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts helps Indigenous Australians manage and protect country through a variety of programs and initiatives, including through:
- The Indigenous Protected Areas program;
- Working on Country program;
- The Indigenous Land Management Facilitators Network;
- Natural Resource Management;
- Joint Management of National Parks;
- The Australian Government Envirofund;
- The Renewable Remote Power Generation Program; and
- Oil Recycling.
