About the paper
The purpose of this Discussion Paper is to encourage input from individuals, businesses and organisations into this review of the Historic Shipwrecks Act 1976 (the Act). It provides:
- an explanation of the key provisions of the Act;
- a summary of how the provisions have been implemented since the Act came into force in 1977;
- information regarding the UNESCO 2001 Convention for the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage (the Underwater Cultural Heritage Convention); and
- a selection of key questions regarding the operation of the Act and consideration of the Underwater Cultural Heritage Convention to help stimulate discussion as part of the review
