About this publication
Working Together: Managing National Heritage Places has been prepared for place owners and managers to assist in the day-to-day management of these places. It is a user-friendly guide which introduces the reader to the National Heritage management process. Working Together: Managing National Heritage Places is a technical guideline which aims to promote a better understanding of the management requirements under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. The guide was specifically developed in response to requests made at the 2007 National Place Managers Forum. State government departments and heritage consultants will also find the guide an informative reference document and tool.
How this documents works
Developed as a reference tool, it includes eight sections designed to be kept in an A4 folder. Each section has its own tab divider to help you easily locate material. Key concepts such as the National Heritage management principles are explained and suggestions are provided on how they may be implemented into the management of a National Heritage place. A suggested framework for a management plan is also included. A section has also been dedicated to explaining the referrals process. Sections which draw strongly on the requirements of the legislation have an EPBC Act Quick Guide, which looks and acts as a bookmark. The Quick Guides are intended to help you readily identify key sections of the Act and Regulations which relate to National Heritage places. At the front of the publication you will find an A3 map which includes the location of those places currently included in the National Heritage List. At the back of the publication is a large heritage values table. This provides an overview of the breadth of values of our National Heritage places. Places on the National heritage List are of outstanding heritage value to the nation. Working together to manage these places will ensure that these places are conserved for present and future generations.
Please also note that the toolkit is designed to be updated as new material becomes available or amendments are made to legislation. When new material is prepared it is intended that relevant sections be replaced. As a result please note the date of each section which is located on the side of the last page of each section.
