About the calendar

Australia is a complex and diverse nation comprising the Indigenous population and immigrant peoples from nearly 200 countries. But it is our common heritage that makes us distinctively Australian. The places on the National Heritage List are special to all of us. Together, they represent our country and who we are.

Through conservation, recognition and promotion of our most outstanding Indigenous, natural and historic heritage, the National Heritage List protects and celebrates the places and stories that have shaped our nation.

From scientifically significant sites such as Mawson's Huts Historic Site in the hostile environment of Antarctica and historical sites such as the Myall Creek Massacre and Memorial Site in New South Wales to natural treasures such as Western Australia's Shark Bay and the Wet Tropics of Queensland, this calendar provides a snapshot of Australia's unique national heritage.
