Annual funding of up to $4.42 million each year is provided for National Historic Sites (which incorporates Commemorating Eminent Australians).
The May 2011 Federal Budget announced supplementary funding of up to $8 million over two years for a new community heritage grants program. The funding will be available in 2011-12 and 2012-13.
To streamline the delivery of heritage funding, program guidelines for National Historic Sites and Commemorating Eminent Australians have been incorporated into the new Your Community Heritage Program Guidelines.
Within the new Your Community Heritage Program, National Historic Sites has been renamed to Protecting National Historic Sites. To apply for funding to Protecting National Historic Sites you must apply through the new Your Community Heritage Program.
In 2013-14 the Protecting National Historic Sites Program (which incorporates the Commemorating Eminent Australians Program) will revert to its previous administrative arrangements.

National Historic Sites Program 2010-11 funding round
The Heritage Minister has announced support for some of Australia's most significant historic sites through 44 projects under the National Historic Sites program.
Applications for the 2010-11 funding round opened on 21 April 2010 and closed on 31 May 2010.

On 16 February 2011 the Minister approved the allocation of up to $0.44 million of the funds from the National Historic Sites Program to enable the Managers of properties on the National Heritage List (NHL) to promote their sites and Australian Heritage Week 2011 as a part of raising public awareness of heritage and encouraging support for the ongoing conservation and protection of the sites. The promotional program assisted NHL place managers to organise, promote and implement community events during or around Australian Heritage Week 2011.
