Aboriginal Archaeological Survey: Waldaira-Juno Station The project aims to undertake a range of research studies on Aboriginal archaeological and cultural values in and around Waldaira-Juno Station. This is achieved through providing experience and training to community members in the identification and recording of Aboriginal archaeological sites, produce educational material on the project results and determine which sites would be appropriate to build into archaeological tourism exercises. Mooka Sea Country (Listen to Sea Country) The projects aims to create a uniform approach to Aboriginal cultural heritage management in the Purfleet-Taree Local Aboriginal Land Council constituted environs. In performing the identification process, collation of relevant information from written and recorded sources as well as actual field investigation and recording will be performed. All information/data obtained during the project's operations will be presented as an interpretive and GIS project presentation. Wilsons River Experience Walk The project will deliver detailed research around five specific sites along the banks of the Wilsons River, as identified by Widjabal Elders. It will research Indigenous and non-Indigenous history and culture around these sites, and establish two sites as part of an extensive outdoor learning environment. This is achieved by researching the significance of the river, developing large interpretive panels and signage, developing an outdoor classroom and developing written marketing materials. Northern Sydney Foreshores Aboriginal Heritage Promotion Plan This project includes an overview of Aboriginal Heritage along foreshores of northern Sydney, identification of an integrated network of places where Aboriginal heritage can be appropriately promoted for varied audiences and the development of the plan. Mungo Festival 2006 - 'Hands Across the Desert' and Welcome Ceremony component The project is for the Walpiri and Pintubi people to visit the Paakantyi, Mutthi Mutthi and Ngiyampaa people during the Mungo Festival to provide a traditional interpretation of the recently discovered fossil footprints in Willandra. Deen Maar - Sharing Stories - Sharing Culture The project will use funding to create a walkway with eight ceramic coolamons housed in rock shelters containing images that interpret the cultural, spiritual, historic and natural significance of the Deen Maar IPA. The project includes the design and production of the coolamons, site preparation, construction of the rock shelters, pathway development, and site revegetation. Conservation management plan and interpretation plan for the Lake Condah restoration project The project includes identifying cultural sites along the Glenelg River, consultation with Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members, producing a report on the river and engaging conservation planning consultants to assist in the Management Plan. IHP - Permanent Exhibition The project aims to develop a permanent exhibition that will interpret seven significant heritage places throughout Victoria. This activity seeks to promote knowledge and understanding of Indigenous heritage and will facilitate the active teaching of traditional knowledge and understanding of customary responsibilities in relation to land and waters, including heritage places, to future generations. IHP - Finding a Different Melbourne This project aims to identify Indigenous places around Melbourne and develop a walking tour to share the Indigenous values and heritage of the city with locals and tourists. It will also provide an opportunity for Elders to share their knowledge and experience with Aboriginal youth. Jaara Heritage Tourism Planning Strategy The project is to develop a sustainable heritage tourism strategy for Indigenous heritage places on Jaara Country, comprising the Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park, Mount Alexander Regional Park and the Greater Bendigo National Park. Kow Swamp Conservation and Interpretation Program This project aims to develop a stronger identity for Aboriginal youth with their traditional country, culture and traditions focusing on an icon site such as Kow Swamp. The activities that will be undertaken include taking 3 groups of youths through 10-week sessions to educate about different issues such as rehabilitation, researching, producing signage and promoting areas of significance. Aboriginal Land Management and Cultural Heritage Agreement This project will update the City of Port Phillip's Municipal Strategic Statement to include Aboriginal cultural heritage values; produce Aboriginal heritage overlays and heritage citations to protect and promote significant and important Aboriginal cultural heritage places; establish land management and cultural heritage agreement between the City of Port Phillip Council and Boonerwrung and Wurundjeri Councils; and provide interpretive signage within the City of Port Phillip. The Web Incorporated IHP 2006 The project includes production of primary materials regarding the cultural heritage of local clans involved, establishment of a keeping place and resource centre and to facilitate education of traditional owners' knowledge and practices to wider community and students. This includes activities such as field surveys and returning of artefacts to the keeping place. The Web Inc - Brisbane Region Environment Council $47,950
Indigenous Heritage Program The project will resource the Pitta Pitta and Wankangurru traditional owners to work collaboratively with bush heritage and appropriate community representatives to identify, plan, protect and share knowledge about sites of cultural heritage significance on those parts of their country managed by Bush Heritage, Ethabuka and Craven's Peak Stations. The 2006/07 component of the project includes the identification, recording, visits to the country and engagement of protocols. NWQCHCC Conservation The project is to undertake a range of conservation works to Indigenous sites within North Western Queensland. Cultural Heritage Management Plan The project aims to enable the Ghungalu community to create and begin implementing their cultural heritage management plan. This includes documenting, managing, protecting and promoting cultural heritage through the employment of a full-time Cultural Heritage Officer who will work with the community and a range of stakeholders. Development of Management Plan for Fish Traps in the Mackay Whitsunday Region The project will develop a management plan for the preservation and recording of the fish traps that were used by the traditional owner groups in the region from Eden Lassie Creek down to Cattle Creek. Dapang-Talkinjeri Heritage Tourism Plan The project will develop a Heritage Tourism Plan that will be implemented to achieve sustainable heritage tourism activities on and around traditional lands. Planned with traditional owners, the project will teach younger members of the community about their cultural heritage and provide them with the skills and resources to revive cultural practices and protect heritage sites in the future. Ngarrindjeri Environment and Heritage/25 This project aims to develop a management strategy for Ngarrinjderi cultural heritage on Ngarrinjderi Ruwe (lands and islands). Burrandies Heritage Conservation and Signage The project involves protection of recognised cultural heritage sites that demonstrate evidence of the Boandik Aboriginal group located in south-east of South Australia. The conservation work involves general site rehabilitation and fencing, including removing weeds, construction of fencing, signage and general recovery of the site. Preservation and Protection of Indigenous Heritage - Yawuru This project is to set up the Yawuru-owned property Wattle Downs as a working space to identify and protect cultural heritage sites within the Broome Kullari region. Arafura Wetlands Cultural Heritage GIS Database This project aims to create an interactive GIS database of cultural and natural heritage sites and their associated stories in the northern portion of the Arafura Wetland's National Heritage area. The database will enable local Aboriginal youth and non-Aboriginal visitors to learn about the culture, history and natural values of the Arafura Wetlands.
