Australian World Heritage Advisory Committee

The Australian World Heritage Advisory Committee (AWHAC) has been established by the Environment Protection and Heritage Council (EPHC) to provide advice to Commonwealth and State/Territory Ministers on issues of a cross-cutting nature that affect Australia's World Heritage sites.

AWHAC comprises one representative from each World Heritage property in Australia and provides a forum for Australia's World Heritage site managers to share information on best practice management and to encourage continual improvement for the protection of our valuable World Heritage properties.

The Committee also includes two representatives from the Australian World Heritage Indigenous Network (AWHIN), to provide direct and ongoing advice to EPHC on Indigenous perspectives of management of Australia's World Heritage properties.

Annual advice from AWHAC to EPHC will be invaluable in developing effective national policies and in shaping future decision making about Australia's World Heritage places.

Established by the EPHC in November 2008, AWHAC met for the first time on 3 April 2009 at the Sydney Opera House, Australia's most recent addition to the World Heritage List.
