The Department of Natural Resources, Environment, the Arts and Sport is responsible for conserving, enhancing and ensuring best possible access to, and enjoyment of, the Territory's natural and cultural assets. This includes native wildlife and habitats, renewable natural resources including water and natural landscapes, historic buildings and places, scientific and cultural collections as well as promotion and development of creative communities.

Northern Territory Heritage Advisory Council
The Northern Territory Heritage Advisory Council is responsible for a number of functions including advising the Minister on matters affecting the natural and cultural heritage of the Territory.

Parks and Wildlife Service of the Northern Territory
The Parks and Wildlife Service of the Northern Territory manage Parks and Reserves from the tropical north to the deserts of Central Australia.

Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority, NT
The Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority Administers the Northern Territory Aboriginal Sacred Sites Act 1989, with the aim to protect and prevent desecration of sacred sites in the Northern Territory.

The Environment Centre, Northern Territory
The Environment Centre Northern Territory was established in 1983 and is the peak non-government environment group in the Territory. The Environment Centre works in a range of areas including to:
- promote environmental awareness
- involve the public in conservation issues
- provide information via its library and files
- lobby government and industry.

The National Trust of Australia (Northern Territory) is a community-based organisation with a charter to promote the preservation and awareness of the heritage of the Northern Territory.
