Commonwealth heritage laws
The importance of Commonwealth heritage places is recognised through the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, which contains provisions for management and protection of those places.
The Act helps ensure that the heritage system identifies, protects and manages the natural, Indigenous and historic heritage values of places under Commonwealth ownership or control.
