Asia-Pacific Focal Point - Newsletter Number 1

November 2000

Robert Hill, Minister for the Environment and Heritage

It is with great pleasure that I introduce the first Asia-Pacific Focal Point Newsletter.

In 1996, Australia hosted the first meeting of World Heritage managers from the Asia-Pacific region, where the need for a network was identified. By the time Thailand hosted the second meeting in 1998 it was clear that the conservation of World Heritage properties in the region, and the promotion of the Convention, would benefit from a more effective, ongoing network of heritage managers.
