Nomination by the Republic of Vanuatu for Inscription on the World Heritage List
The nomination file for Chief Roi Mata's Domain (CRMD) in Vanuatu was submitted to the World Heritage Centre in February 2007. The following three documents represent the principal components of the file:
PDF and RTF files
- Chief Roi Mata's Domain - Nomination by the Republic of Vanuatu for Inscription on the World Heritage List (PDF - 9,606 KB)
- Plan of Management for Chief Roi Mata's Domain (CRMD) (PDF - 14,864 KB)
- Cultural Tourism Strategy for Chief Roi Mata's Domain (Northwest Efate, Vanuatu) (PDF - 24,919 KB)
In March 2008, ICOMOS recognised that Chief Roi Mata's Domain satisfies the criteria for Outstanding Universal Value, but proposed that the property be deferred to enable Vanuatu to address a series of recommendations relating to the management of the property.
Between March and July 2008, Vanuatu made considerable efforts to address the concerns of ICOMOS and on the 8th of July, at the 32nd session of the World Heritage Committee in Quebec City, Canada, the Committee voted to inscribe Chief Roi Mata's Domain on the World Heritage List.
Please be advised that the nomination file documents listed above do not include Vanuatu's response to the recommendations made by ICOMOS, as many of the issues raised in these documents have been either substantially addressed or superseded. An updated version of the Plan of Management for Chief Roi Mata's Domain, which provides details of all management strategies implemented since February 2007, will be available by December 2009.
