Assessor accreditation & registration

Assessor Accreditation

Only certified Home Sustainability Assessors will be contracted to conduct Assessments for the Green Loans Program.

To become a certified Home Sustainability Assessor you need to complete a training program and register for the Home Sustainability Assessment Scheme with an Assessor Accrediting Organisation.

To ensure the highest quality of service to Australian households, certified Assessors need to have police checks before they begin work and will be subject to regular auditing.

Accredited Assessors will be:

Assessors may be either independent operators holding an ABN, or an ACN, or associated with a registered company or organisation that provides assessment services.

Schedule of fees

Assessors or their agent will be paid according to a published schedule of fees for successfully conducting prescribed services for the Australian Government.

What do you need to do to become an Assessor?

To undertake Home Sustainability Assessments for the Green Loans Program Assessors will need to:

1. Be accredited with an Assessor Accrediting Organisation

Assessors conducting standardised Home Sustainability Assessments for the Australian Government are required to be registered with a recognised Assessor Accrediting Organisation.

Contact one of the recognised Assessor Accrediting Organisations for more information on training and accreditation requirements.

2. Sign a contract with the Australian Government to provide assessment services.

Accredited Assessors who wish to conduct assessment services for the Green Loans Program are required to sign a contract to:

This contract does not prohibit the applicant (once they are practicing as an Assessor) from conducting any other business, but rather it establishes the contractual relationship when the applicant chooses to undertake assessment work for the Australian Government.

On signing of the contract the Department will provide instructions on:

  1. How to use the booking service.
  2. How to download the assessment tool or the alternative paper based version.
  3. Invoicing the Department for assessment services.

If an Assessor, as either an individual or as a company, signs the Contract for the provision of Assessor Services by an individual then the Assessor must have and maintain professional indemnity insurance to the value of $2 million per claim for one year following the expiration or termination of the Contract. This contract cannot include other assessors.

If an Assessor signs a Contract for the provision of Assessor Services by an organisation then the Assessor must have and maintain professional indemnity insurance to the value of $5 million for seven years following the expiration or termination of the Contract. This contract can include multiple listed assessors and can be varied to add more.

3. List your availability

Accredited Assessors can use their registration number to list their availability to conduct assessment services on the appointment booking service. The Assessor has full right to decide:

Once each assessment service is completed and the Report is lodged on the national database, the Assessor - or the company representing the Assessor - will be paid by the Australian Government according to the published Schedule of Assessment Fees.
