About the application
The Department of the Environment and Water Resources has received an application for approval for a permit to take an action affecting a member of a listed species or ecological community in a Commonwealth Area under Part 13, section 200 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
The application is to collect feather and/or small blood samples from approximately 30-50 brown boobies nesting on Christmas Island. Samples will be used for DNA extraction to help define genetic management units which may aid in future conservation initiatives.
A permit is sought for the period commencing from the date of approval to 31 October 2007.
In accordance with the provisions of section 237(3b) of the EPBC Act, you were invited to comment on this proposal.
Public comment period ended on 31 July 2007.
