About the document

Delivering an Australian Government Biodiversity Policy is the next important step in protecting our most important places and species, and the ecosystem services they provide.

This policy complements Australia's Biodiversity Conservation Strategy 2010-2030 , which is a joint initiative of the Australian, state and territory governments.

The Australian Government Biodiversity Policy will deliver a more integrated approach by the Australian Government in tackling the challenge of biodiversity conservation in a changing climate. The policy describes the role of the Australian Government and the principles that will guide the design and delivery of its policies and programs related to biodiversity.

The public comment period closed Friday 21 October 2011.
